Chevrolet has launched the limited-production model to pay tribute to the famed C8.R race car, which was the 2020 IMSA series champion. Named the IMSA GTLM Championship Edition, the new offering is based on the 2022 Corvette stingray 3LT Z51 and is only available in 1000 examples. The limited-edition version differs from the model it builds on with an exclusive yellow or gray exterior with accent racing stripes, plus a variety of accents like yellow calipers and seatbelts, black rims with Jake skull-logoed center caps, and a Carbon Flash paint on side mirrors and spoilers.

The Vette is available as a coupe or convertible and comes in three trim levels: 1LT, 2LT and 3LT. The heart of the car is a 6.2-liter naturally-aspirated V8 that gained a revised engine management system along with a new fuel pump and injectors this year. There aren’t any output changes, though, with this engine producing 490 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. A smooth-shifting 8-speed dual-clutch transmission feeds that whopping power to the rear wheels. A 0-60 mph run takes less than 3 seconds, while a top speed is 194 mph. The upcoming Chevrolet Corvette Z06 will be fitted with a high-revving 5.5-liter V8 featuring a flat-plate type of crankshaft.

The Z51 Performance package adds a number of bits turning the C8 into a legit race track performer. First off, upgraded exhaust parts add 5 hp and 5 lb-ft of torque to the output. The engine gets a better cooling system, while uprated brakes with bigger rotors allow for higher resistance to overheating and faster stops. The tires are more grippy, and a retuned suspension helps keep them planted in turns. An electronic limited-slip diff helps bolster the car's cornering performance and reduce wheelspin at launch.
