BMW revamps its small SUV for the 2022 model year, endowing it with styling tweaks, more options, and minor engine revisions. The facelifted X3 dons sharper headlight and tail light designs, reworked bumpers, and a slightly revised kidney grille. Exterior changes apply to both regular and high-performance models. Speaking of powertrains, base trim levels – the RWD sDrive30i and AWD xDrive30i – carry over with a 2.0-liter turbo four. The S58 twin-turbo I6 found under the hood of the X3 M gained revised parts, namely a lighter forged crank and a new cylinder head core made with 3D-printing technology for weight savings and better cooling. This upgrade helped slightly increase the amount of torque, with the regular X3 M making 473 hp and 457 lb-ft (up 15 lb-ft). In the case of the M Competition package, the torque bumps up 37 lb-ft to 479, while horsepower remains at 503.
