The Kia Sorento has already proven itself as a competent 3-row midsize SUV. However, given the marketplace this crowded and consumer demands this high, it comes as no surprise today's SUVs receive frequent redesigns. That's the case with the Sorento. Six years after the debut of the third generation, Kia is ready to reveal the revamped SUV. The all-new fourth-gen model enters 2021 with sharp new styling, upscale interior, efficient powertrains, and plenty of tech features. This SUV has the attributes to attract even the most picky buyer, but it may lack some features you want. Our 2021 Kia Sorento accessories and parts allow you to tailor your crossover to your particular needs.
The U.S.-spec Sorento comes with four powertrain choices. There are two gas-powered 2.5-liter I4 engine options, which include a naturally-aspirated base unit that makes 191 hp and its turbocharged version that ups the pony count to 281 hp. The engines are paired to conventional and dual-clutch eight-speed automatic transmissions, respectively. Newly available is a hybrid powertrain, which is a rarity in this SUV segment. It comes in two different configurations built around a 1.6-liter turbo-4 and an electric motor. In its standard hybrid form, that engine works with a 44-kW electric motor that draws energy from a 1.5-kWh battery. The system produces 227 horsepower in total, routed exclusively to the front wheels. The second electrified powertrain available is a PHEV, and it uses the same 1.6-liter four but teamed with a more powerful motor and a bigger battery. This version of the hybrid system puts out 261 horsepower sent to all four wheels and offers up to 30 miles of electric-only driving.
The new SUV is available in LX, S, EX, SX, and SX-Prestige models, and offers an X-Line package that reveals the outdoorsy side of the Sorento. It comes with standard all-wheel drive and rides one inch higher, while adding an exclusive set of 20-inch alloy wheels, a roof rack, and exterior accessories that give the SUV a more rugged appearance. The 2021 Sorento gained a bolder-looking “face” with a new, more aggressive take on the brand's “tiger nose” grille. The grille surround wraps around the redesigned headlights with three-element “tiger eye” LED daytime running lights, providing an integrated look of the front fascia. The body parts got sharper creases and character lines. Our back, many of the design cues are borrowed from the bigger Telluride. The wheelbase of the new model is stretched by 1.4 inches, which translates into a roomier cabin. A more compact engine bay and shorter overhangs further increase interior space.
On the inside, the 2021 Sorento features a more sophisticated design. Two-tone, quilted and perforated leather imposes a richer look and feel in top-tier models. Up front, there's a new vertical design of air vents and a rotary gear selector. Digital gauges get a 12.3-inch display, while the infotainment is operated via an 8-inch or 10.25-inch touchscreen. Kia added some impressive tech options such as multi-collision braking that stops the vehicle after the air bags deploy, and a remote surround view technology that allows owners to check the SUV's surrounds via a smartphone when they leave it unattended. Kia did a great work giving the new Sorento upmarket push for it to have more appeal to those who want a premium interior and smooth ride at a price that undercuts many of the similarly equipped competitors. If there's room for better comfort, convenience, practicality, or anything else, upgrade your hauler to your liking with our 2021 Kia Sorento parts and accessories.
