With the Ford GT, the engineers at Blue Oval have rediscovered the concept of a supercar, which was shaped and honed by Italian carmakers. Its story goes back to the 1960s when the legendary Ford GT40 left Ferrari in the dust at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. That beast of a car brought home four wins in a row, from 1966 to 1969. But before that storied spree of victories, there had been a win at the 1966 Daytona 24 Hour endurance race. To celebrate that not as huge but just as important milestone, Ford launches the 2021 GT Heritage Edition paying tribute to the original 1966 GT40 Mark II. More on the cosmetic side of things, this year’s Ford GT offers a new graphics package allowing buyers to customize the “skin” of their supercar. A whole lot of other personalization options are available in the aftermarket, and we’ve gathered the finest of them in our 2021 Ford GT accessories and parts selection.
The 2021 Heritage Edition dresses up the GT’s exterior with the race-winning ‘66 Mark II-inspired livery. Black and red graphics are applied in an asymmetrical manner to the body painted in the Frozen White hue, and of course, the doors showcase the number 98 roundels. The hood’s carbon fiber is left exposed, adding a modern contrasting touch to the retro look. Through the spokes of lightweight 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, one can see red Brembo calipers. The interior got its special treatment in the form of an extensive use of Alcantara fabrics of black and red colors.
The Ford GT’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 that sits under the rear deck produces a thundering 660 horsepower and 550 lb-ft of torque. A 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox sends this tire-shredding power to the rear wheels. Although this car is intended for use on the race track, its suspension makes it bearable to drive on city streets. The cockpit layout is pilot-focused and optimized for racing. The position of the steering wheel and pedals can be adjusted, while that of the low-slung driver’s seat can not. Naturally for this class of car, infotainment features are bare-bones simple, however, the driver can still take advantage of the Sync 3 operated via a 6.5-inch touchscreen, which supports voice control and sat-nav. Ford’s GT is a highly demanded limited-production American supercar that screams “exclusive.” If you want to make this unique car more your own, our collection of 2021 Ford GT parts and accessories has you covered.
