More than 15 years ago, Porsche carved out a niche in the family vehicle segment with its Cayenne, currently considered as one of the most exciting SUVs on the market. With a strong commitment to being ahead of the curve, the engineers at the company have never stopped upgrading and improving this luxury crossover in terms of style, power, safety, and refinement. Last year, Porsche surprised its loyalists with the completely redesigned Cayenne. For this year, the SUV is mostly a carryover model with the same focus on driving dynamics, technology, and luxury. The significant 2020 change is the expanding of the Cayenne lineup with the coupe version rumored for several years. Now, after years of design and months of prototype testing, the whole new SUV coupe is finally introduced to the public. Actually, it benefits from virtually all the technical highlights of the SUV model, while featuring many body parts remodeled for more dynamic looks and new 2020 Porsche Cayenne accessories for an unrivaled elegance.
Compared to the SUV version, the coupe one looks sportier thanks to a 0.78-inch lower roofline and accessories like a roof spoiler. To ensure all 2020 Porsche Cayenne parts of the exterior work well as a whole, the engineers reshaped the rear doors and fenders making the model a little bit wider. At the rear, the new Porsche offering seems closer to the ground because of the license plate integrated into the bumper. Another move that is certainly welcomed by most car fans is the automaker’s decision to equip the coupe model with an adaptive roof spoiler previously standard on the Turbo version. The new model is standard with a fixed panoramic glass roof. A carbon fiber option is available. Despite the highly dynamic lines and many distinctive accessories, the coupe is unmistakably a Porsche Cayenne with the same engine options and mechanics under the metal.
The 2020 Cayenne keeps sharing the MLB platform with the Audi Q7. Under the hood, the base versions of both SUV and coupe hide a six-cylinder turbocharged engine with the displacement of 3.0 liters. That mill is rated at 340 HP and offers about 332 lb. ft. of torque. Just like before, the S version gets power from a twin-turbocharged V6 with the displacement of 2.9 liters. That engine is capable of providing up to 440 HP and 402 lb. ft. of torque. The most powerful engine option is a 4.0 L twin-turbo V8 with a maximum output of 550 HP and 567 lb. ft. of torque, which powers Turbo and Turbo coupe versions.
There is a new mid-range model designed for those who need more features and power than stock without the high price tag of the range-topping turbo SUV. It is the 2020 Cayenne S Coupe that got generous equipment right from the factory and a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 good for 434 hp and 405 lb.-ft. The engine is teamed with an 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic and AWD. The new version promises a sporty setup thanks to the factory-installed Sport Chrono Package, while the standard panoramic roof, 20’’ alloy rims, and sport seats add to the wow factor. This package also comes standard on three new hybrid models offered in both standard and couple body styles. Two of them (Turbo S E-Hybrid and its coupe variant) are considered the most powerful Cayennes ever built. They get power from a 4.0 L twin-turbo V8 teamed with an electric motor. The total system output is rated at 670 HP. Zero to 60 mph happens in just 3.6 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 183 mph. The third new model is the E-Hybrid Coupe that has the same turbocharged V6 coupled with an e-motor as the Cayenne E-Hybrid. With such a powertrain, it is capable of providing 455 HP and sprinting from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds. As far as visual identifiers are concerned, all three models feature Acid Green brake calipers and badging highlights.
