The Mitsubishi Outlander is a fine option for those seeking affordable transportation for five or seven in a city-friendly package. It is not as mainstream as the Toyota RAV4 or Hyundai Santa Fe, but with such traits as class-leading warranty and outstanding scores in crash tests, it’s definitely worth the attention of more buyers. For 2020, the automaker stuffed its small crossover SUV with more safety and driver assist features which are standard at the lower end of the lineup; a five-star rating from the NHTSA for the plug-in hybrid model should also increase the Outlander’s appeal to families. Also new is the Special Edition (SP) model slotting between the LE and SEL. It is the SUV’s “stealth version” with a variety of black 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander accessories on the outside.

The powertrains for the 2020 year model carry over unchanged. The base engine is a 2.4-liter inline four which has long been criticized for being underpowered. The output of 166 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque is unimpressive when it comes to motivating a vehicle which weighs more than 3,500 pounds. A step up is a 3.0-liter V6 installed in GT models, and it is a better option with its 224 hp and 215 lb-ft. The star of the lineup is the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, which is currently one of a few hybrid crossovers that can be had with all-wheel drive. In this case, the total power output of 197 hp comes from a combination of a 2.0-liter four and two electric motors. When running on pure electricity, it can cover a distance of up to 22 miles. AWD is available across the board, and this year, it is an improved S-AWC (Super All Wheel Control) system with Active Yaw Control. Although the engines of the 2020 Outlander are underwhelming, fuel efficiency is one of the SUV’s strong points and the ride quality and handling are on a high level, due in part to last year’s revisions to suspension parts.

The interior of the 2020 Outlander saw some minor tweaks. All versions received a power lumbar support added to the driver’s seat; audio options got a bit of a reshuffle and an 8’’ touchscreen was added to the options list. Big changes are on the safety front, with active safety features expanded to lower trim levels. Thus, FCM with Pedestrian Detection is now standard on all grades except for the base ES. From a styling standpoint, the SUV is fresh thanks to revisions made for 2019. A lot of exterior accessories and parts received a redesign, including the rims, grille, and headlights. If you want to liven up its look, there are tons of 2020 Mitsubishi Outlander parts and accessories available on the market at reasonable prices for you to make your own changes to your vehicle’s appearance.

Paid extra for the emblem and it was absolutely the right call. The embroidery is well done and truly adds a nice touch. Hope there won’t be any fading or issues with the mats anytime soon.
