The new solar-panel roof stretches between the windshield and rear window allowing for an 800-mile increase in driving range per year in case of up to six hours a day of effective battery recharging.

As for the regular lineup, the base SE and mid-level SEL trim levels of the 2020 Sonata are powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder good for 191 horsepower. On the other end of the spectrum, there are the SEL Plus and Limited models that get a 1.6-liter turbo four. In both cases, an 8-speed automatic transmission delivers power to the wheels. Even in the base trim, the new Sonata is pretty well equipped. Hyundai’s SmartSense safety tech and an 8.0-inch infotainment system are standard across the range.
