The most popular model in the Cadillac lineup received a mild facelift for the 2020 model year. The mid-cycle upgrade of the first generation XT5 includes the revision of the trim level categorization, which brings it in line with other Cadillac siblings. Now there are three trim levels in this two-row crossover lineup. The base one is the Luxury, and the two higher-level submodels are the Premium Luxury and Sport. The same transmission is married to the optional naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 engine good for 310 horsepower. The efficiency of both engines is improved thanks to the electronic stop-start system, camshaft phasing, and cylinder deactivation. FWD configuration is standard with available dual-clutch AWD (for the Sport trim level) with Active Yaw Control and adaptive suspension for better comfort, stability, and handling, especially on twisting mountain roads. Cadillac logo is projected from under the rear bumper indicating a place to kick for hands-free liftgate opening. This feature is now standard in all models.

The model received a new center console with an available 8-inch touchscreen display on the Cadillac User Experience infotainment system which could now be operated via a rotary controller placed next to the shifter on the console. The digital instrument cluster was redesigned as well. Driver assists and safety features were updated with new automated functions.
