For 2019, most likely the last model year of the current-generation Passat, Volkswagen simplifies its lineup dropping everything except one engine option and two trim levels. S and SEL grades were discontinued, just like the sporty GT introduced less than a year ago. An available 3.6 L V6 delivering 280 hp and the 6-speed dual-clutch transmission it was connected to were dropped as well. So, now all variants of the Passat employ a 2.0 L turbo I4 good for 174 hp that works together with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This powertrain delivers excellent fuel efficiency of 29 mpg combined and up to 36 mpg highway. Plus, the 2019 Volkswagen Passat comes with a roomy, quiet, and comfortable interior that is perfect for long-distance trips and a wide and deep trunk offering a lot of usable room, which can carry 15.5 cu. ft. of cargo.

Due to the discontinuation of three grades, the Wolfsburg Edition is the base trim level for the new Passat. The model rides on 17” wheels and offers push-button start, heated side mirrors, keyless ignition, leatherette upholstery, leather steering wheel, and heated front seats. This variant of the 2019 Volkswagen Passat utilizes the Composition Media infotainment system featuring a 6.3” touchscreen, voice controls, and SiriusXM radio. The Wheel & Roof optional package is also offered for the trim grade. It adds a power sunroof and 18” aluminum alloy wheels. The SE R-Line is a range-topping trim level now, providing a number of exterior and interior features previously offered by the R-Line variant. The model comes with LED headlights, DRLs and tail lights, parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, ambient lighting, satellite navigation, premium audio system by Fender, Easy Open trunk, and active lane control. Besides, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automated emergency braking are standard safety features for any version of the 2019 Volkswagen Passat.
