Originally, the Jetta was launched by Volkswagen as the Golf with a conventional trunk and some styling differences. Since its unveiling in 1980, the model has become larger and more potent with each next generation, and its popularity grew as well. In 2014, the Jetta eventually became the best-selling vehicle by the German automaker with more than 14 million units sold around the world. The seventh-generation entered the market for 2019. The car is based on the scalable MQB platform that delivers refinement, stiffness, and versatility and is used by such vehicles as the Golf, Atlas, Arteon, Passat, and Tiguan. This way, the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta provides more enjoyable driving experience.
The 2019 Jetta offers a new look. Its shape is similar to the preceding generation, but the model features finer design elements. For instance, it comes with a new grille and new headlights resembling the newly-launched Atlas SUV. The model also comes with an arching roofline, high beltline and has a wide stance, providing a more coupe-like look than the previous version. At the same time, the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta offers a lot of cargo space. The model is primarily focused on the U.S. market, that’s why it has an American touch and delivers excellent performance. The base Jetta takes its power from the same 1.4 L turbo I4 as the previous variant, but this version was improved and generates higher power output. It can also be connected to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox. Higher grades employ a more dynamic 2.0 L turbo I4.
The high-performance GLI version of the 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was launched later for the same model year. Thanks to the new MQB platform, it’s more dynamic than its predecessor and offers a manual transmission (6-speed) – for the 2018 model year a manual option was dropped for the GLI. Another gearbox offering is a 7-speed dual-clutch. The 2019 Jetta GLI comes with the Golf GTI’s turbocharged 2.0 L I4 under the hood, which is good for 228 hp and 258 lb.-ft. of torque. Also shared with its hatchback sibling are front brakes with bright red calipers and an electronically-controlled diff. The long-awaited performance sedan offers popular sporty features like a lowered suspension with struts in front and a multilink setup in the rear, dual-tip exhaust, aggressively-styled bumpers, a distinctive honeycomb grille with a red stripe, 18’’ alloy wheels, etc. Inside, the 2019 Jetta GLI has plenty of red accents.
