With its head-turning styling, muscular engines, and strong chassis derived from an early Mercedes E-Class, the Dodge Challenger is one of the staples in the automaker's lineup. Dodge never stops expanding the Challenger range and pushing its performance bar even higher. The biggest news for this year is the 2019 Dodge Challenger Hellcat Redeye arriving on the heels of the last year's insanely powerful SRT Demon. The new Redeye shares the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 with its ferocious predecessor, but instead of a whopping 840 hp and 770 lb-ft of the Demon, the newcomer offers 797 hp and 707 lb-ft. No manual transmission options back up the engine's power; an 8-speed automatic is the sole offering. It is currently the company's quickest muscle car, zipping to 60 mph in a blazing 3.4 seconds and hitting a max speed of 203 mph. The “regular” Redeye finishes the quarter mile in a brisk 11.1 seconds at 131 mph, while the car with the optional Widebody package does the same run in 10.8 seconds.

For those who think the Redeye's 797-hp output is too much, there are the refreshed SRT Hellcat and R/T Scat Pack models. The Widebody package is now available for both, adding 3.5 inches to the width of fender flares to fit wider tires. Customers stepping up to this option also get 6-piston brakes by Brembo, stiffer suspension with retuned dampers and bigger anti-roll bars, P-Zero tires by Pirelli wrapped around forged aluminum 20-inchers, and other 2019 Dodge Challenger parts beefed-up for higher performance. The Hellcat's power output goes above the iconic 707-hp mark, now bringing 717 hp to the table. Above the engine compartment is a dual-snorkel hood instead of the previous power bulge panel. Standard on the SRT Hellcat is a range of track-oriented goodies such as line lock for easy burnouts and launch assist for faster starts. The R/T Scat Pack carries on with a 6.4-liter 485-hp Hemi V8 hidden under the new aluminum hood with power bulge. Launch control and line lock are standard on these Challenger models as well, as are Dodge's programmable Performance Pages and SRT Drive Modes. The rear seats can be deleted on both of these high-power cars to reduce weight.

The new R/T Scat Pack 1320 is claimed to be the fastest roadgoing car powered by a naturally-aspirated engine, covering the quarter mile (1,320 feet) in 11.7 seconds. It features the engine and standard goodies of the “conventional” R/T Scat Pack plus the Demon-borrowed TransBrake, which is basically a solenoid installed in an automatic transmission that tricks it into thinking that it is in drive and reverse simultaneously. This keeps the car stationary and ready for lightning-fast launch. Also on offer are 41-spline half-shafts, TorqueReserve for smooth power delivery, adaptive dampers that work in an exclusive Drag Mode, and more.

Many of the 2019 Challenger trims, including the GT RWD, R/T, and R/T Scat Pack, can be had in the Stars and Stripes package launched to salute those who serve the United States. According to Dodge, active members of U.S. Armed Forces prefer the Challenger and Charger to other cars in these segments, so launching a military-themed style pack makes perfect sense. What sets it apart is a black and silver stripe that girds the center of the car, black rims, special badges, and American flag decals. Some models feature bronze-painted calipers. The interior design continues the theme with bronze stitching and stars on black seat upholstery.

For this year, the R/T model along with the new GT RWD equipped with a 3.6-liter 300-hp V6 received the Super Track Pack range of features that include retuned suspension components, paddle shifters, bolstered seats, a performance hood, and other 2019 Dodge Challenger accessories and parts. Upgrading to Performance Handling Group adds 4-piston brakes by Brembo, 20 x 9 rims, and an enlarged anti-sway bar to the GT RWD as well as upgraded suspension, 20 x 9.5 wheels, and a limited-slip diff to the R/T.
