The Silverado by Chevy is one of the top-selling pickups in North America with the number of units sold reaching hundreds of thousands per year. Trucks with the bowtie emblem have been renowned for dependability and durability for a very long time – in 2018, the automaker celebrated the 100th anniversary of their trucks – the first one was launched back in 1918. However, in order to keep top positions on the market, an automaker needs to make updates and improvements timely. For 2019, Chevrolet launched the new generation of their most popular Silverado pickup. The model now offers a new look, higher capability and improved powertrains. The truck still uses a steel bed and frame (it’s all-new), but the body is now made from aluminum to decrease weight (450 lbs over the previous gen) and improve fuel efficiency. For the same purpose, the 2019 Chevy Silverado employs a range of manufacturing technologies and materials, so one of the lightest pickups in the class is even lighter now.
The new TrailBoss trim level was introduced for the 2019 model year. The model received an all-black front fascia that draws more attention to the smaller grille and new, narrow LED headlights sitting right near the hood. The new look is emphasized with the rounded wheel cutouts and creases sculpted into the fenders and doors. At the back, you can find redesigned tail lights and rectangular exhaust tips. The Z71 tire and suspension package gives the 2019 Chevy Silverado TrailBoss an even more rugged appearance and improved off-road functionality. As for other trim levels, the Work Truck is the base one, with the next grade represented by the Custom sitting below the Custom TrailBoss. The mid-level truck carries the LT badge, while more upmarket options are labeled the RST and LT TrailBoss. The top of the range models are the LTZ and High Country.
The base 4.3 L V6 was upgraded, while the new turbo I4 is now available for the truck, delivering increased fuel efficiency. Good for 310 hp and maximum torque of 348 lb-ft, this 2.7-liter turbo four is offered as a base engine on mid-level LT and RST trim grades. A small-block V8 remained the line-topping offering, with massively updated 5.3 L and 6.2 L options. All-new for the 2019 model year is a 3.0 L diesel by Duramax. Backing the engines is an 8-speed automatic by GM, while a new 10-speed automatic developed in cooperation with Ford is available. The 2019 Chevy Silverado comes with new LED headlights as standard on all variants except for the base one that features HID units. Apart from the new, more attractive appearance, the model got an improved headlight safety rating by IIHS. DRLs were updated as well. The truck retained its boxy shape, but thanks to a wide range of visual updates, its styling is clearly new. A regular cab of the new Silverado now offers more space behind the seats, enabling you to carry tools and other necessary units there. The bed was reconfigured to offer better functionality – the room between its inside and outside walls was reduced, allowing for a 20% increase in cargo space.
For 2019, Chevrolet makes a comeback to the medium-duty truck segment with its massive 4500HD and 5500HD Silverado pickups. These Class 4 and 5 pickups offer diesel power by Duramax backed by Allison transmissions. Both rigs boast a rugged monster-truck appearance with a wide stance, big-size headlights and fog lights, and side view mirrors with built-in turn signals. Medium-duty pickup truck shoppers can choose from regular and crew cabs, two- and four-wheel drive, as well as operating weight / wheelbase options. In-cabin tech features include Wi-Fi hotspots, telematics systems, OnStar, etc. NVH levels are reduced thanks to triple door insulation. Unlike the competitors from Ram and Ford, Chevrolet's HD trucks feature a standard air suspension at the rear wheels. The Class 6 truck, the 6500HD, joined the lineup of pickups that offer serious capabilities, providing GVWR of 22,500 lb. Chevy's medium-duty trucks aren't based upon any of the existing models – they are built from scratch.
