There are three bed sizes, with the Short and Standard boxes gaining 10 cubic feet and the Long box now getting 14 cubes bigger. The bed, which has also got the Durabed name, is equipped with an industry-first power tailgate with up/down operation activated by a touch of a button on a key fob. Powertrain-wise, Chevy's redesigned light-duty truck offers six different combinations of engine and transmission options. Both gasoline-fed engines, 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter V8s, make use of Chevy's Dynamic Fuel Management system that can deactivate up to seven cylinders depending on the load. This year's addition to the lineup is a 3.0-liter Duramax I6, the first turbodiesel used in this truck. The all-new diesel and a larger gasoline engine are mated to a Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic. The new-generation Silverado 1500 is offered in eight distinct trim levels that fall into three categories. The High Value group includes the base Work Truck, new for this year Custom Trail Boss packed with off-road stuff and lifted 2 inches off the ground, and Custom grade that features body-color trim, LED tail lights, and 20-inch aluminum wheels. The High Volume set focuses on pickup truck capability while offering the amenities of a passenger car. The first in this category is the familiar LT with chrome exterior accents and an 8.0-inch infotainment. Two other models in this group are new for 2019 and include a sporty RST and an off-road-oriented LT Trail Boss, which adds LT-sourced creature comforts to the off-road equipment of the Trail Boss. As its name implies, the High Feature group is targeted at luxury-minded customers and includes high-class LTZ and High Country trim levels.

Once things get lined up and the tow vehicle is shifted into park, the parking brake assist automatically applies the parking brake to prevent unnecessary vehicle movement. There are two additional trailer cameras located in the side mirrors, which offer a 270-degree view together with a standard rearview camera. The optional fourth camera is mounted directly to the trailer. The trailering system app provides important pieces of information such as fuel consumption, mileage, transmission temperature, etc. Last but not least, there's a Trailer Theft Alert feature that activates the horn and lights once trailer wiring disconnection is detected.
