For 2019, the seventh-generation BMW 5-Series offers a new high-performance model, the M5 Competition. It is powered by a robust 4.4 L twin-turbo V8 that develops remarkable 617 hp and 553 lb.-ft. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic that was specially tuned for this model. The powertrain enables the 2019 BMW M5 Competition to accelerate to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds. The new car also received a number of other mechanical upgrades, including a model-specific variable exhaust system that can change engine sound according to the selected mode. The vehicle also features a Variable Damper Control system, stiffer engine mounts and rear anti-roll bar, revised front anti-roll bar mounting, more negative front camber, 5-mm lower ride height compared to the regular M5, and other improvements. Lightweight carbon-ceramic brakes by BMW’s M division are available as an option, while 6-piston front fixed calipers are standard. As for visual improvements, the M5 Competition comes with 20” forged alloy wheels, performance tires, special gloss-black finished badge and numerous gloss-black accents on the mirrors, rear spoiler, window trim, door handles, and side M gills. The interior offers floor mats with the M5 logo, special graphics on the instrument cluster display, and bright stripes on the seat belts.

For the 2019 model year, BMW offers the first-ever plug-in hybrid with factory-installed wireless charger. The owners of the 2019 BMW 530e iPerformance can simply park their car over a base GroundPad Inductive Charging Station to fully charge its batteries in about three and a half hours. The distance between the base and car pads is about 3.15 inches. 3.2 kW charging power has an 85% efficiency rate. The system automatically switches off when the battery is fully charged. A WiFi connection between the charging station and the car helps the driver to park over the base pad more accurately displaying guiding lines and an overhead view on the infotainment Control Display.

Other variants of the 2019 BMW 5-Series remained essentially unchanged. The model underwent a redesign just a couple of years ago, so it is not surprising. The vehicle offers a broad range of engine options to choose from. The base one is a 2.0 L turbo I4 producing 248 hp. A 3.0 L turbo I6 rated at 335 hp, 3.0 L turbodiesel I6 good for 261 hp and 4.4 L twin-turbo V8 in various states of tune are offered as options. An 8-speed automatic is standard for all units. The 2019 BMW 5-Series comes with generous standard equipment that includes 18” wheels, LED adaptive headlights, power-folding mirrors with heating function, sunroof, automatic wipers, climate control, power-adjustable front seats and steering wheel, and simulated leather upholstery. As for infotainment features, the corporate iDriver interface, 10.2” touchscreen, voice control, navigation, Bluetooth, 2 USB ports, and 12-speaker sound system are standard.
