At its launch back in 2007, the Nissan GT-R was a bargain for those who wanted supercar performance at an attractive price. Over the next several years, its pricing grew up to exorbitant levels, starting at $109,990 for the 2017 model year. For 2018, the price for a GT-R is back in a five-figure range for the first time within the last few years: the new entry-level model, named Pure, is offered for $99,990 at the expense of cutting a handful of features including the titanium exhaust, Active Sound Enhancement and Active Noise Cancellation systems, and 11-speaker audio by Bose. Those who want these and other comforts can opt for the Premium trim at a price that still goes well beyond $110,000. Both race-ready track edition and line-topping limited-number Nismo (Nissan Motorsports) carry over for the new model year.
The 2018 Nissan GT-R continues using two versions of a 3.8-liter V6 engine. Its standard configuration offered in all models except for the Nismo uses two turbochargers and a range of other techniques to squeeze 565 hp out of its size. Instead of conventional cast-iron liners, there are plasma-sprayed engine block cylinders and a separate air intake system for each of the cylinder banks. Even more power comes from the Nismo-tuned version – this hand-assembled engine features the high-capacity turbos from the GT500 racing car to develop 600 hp. In both cases, matching the engine is a six-speed dual-clutch automatic with three modes. The clutches, transmission, and transfer case are put at the back of the chassis – it is the first time that the independent rear transaxle setup is fitted to an all-wheel drive vehicle. The sophisticated AWD system of the 2018 Nissan GT-R doesn't use the traditional 50/50 torque distribution. Instead, it sends almost all torque to the rear axle and can also provide up to 50% of the available torque to the front wheels, combining the rear-drive feel and AWD capability.
Externally, 2018 Nissan GT-R parts and accessories create a refined aerodynamic form resulting in 0.26 drag coefficient. On the Nismo model, the entire front and rear ends, side sills, and rear spoiler are made from carbon fiber. 2018 Nissan GT-R accessories and parts of the interior create a drive-focused cockpit with tasteful luxury appointments and high-end technology. There are soft-touch Nappa leather surfaces, Multi-Function Display system, navigation operated via an 8'' screen, NissanConnect services, new-for-2018 Apple CarPlay, and more.
