The GMC Canyon, the Chevrolet Colorado's counterpart, debuted in 2004 to replace the Sonoma model in GMC’s compact/mid-size truck lineup. In 2015, GMC introduced the second generation of the Canyon. It has grown bigger than the previous generation, now being of almost the same size as its competitors, the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. The GMC Canyon has always been an appealing offering in the mid-size truck niche, and the 2017 model is no exception. The 2017 GMC Canyon is a tough workhorse with great utility qualities, designed for those who are used to getting even the toughest job done. It can tow up to 7,700 pounds and provides an abundant cargo space owing to flat-folding rear seats and an optional extended-bed configuration. The 2017 GMC Canyon is not quite a right choice for those looking for an all-terrain vehicle - the Canyon has limited off-road capabilities which, however, can be improved with the All-Terrain package.
A variety of trim levels, body styles, and bed lengths take the Canyon’s utility and flexibility even further - you can easily configure it to fit your particular needs. To start with, there is an entry-level SL model, available only in a two-seat extended cab configuration and powered by a 200-horsepower 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine married to a 6-speed manual transmission. If you’re looking for something fancier than that, make a step up to the 2017 GMC Canyon Base. It is available as a four-seat extended cab and a five-seat crew cab to choose from. All trim levels starting from the Base one are available with an extended bed option. The Base crew cab model comes standard with a 3.6-liter 308-horsepower V6 engine and a six-speed automatic. Additionally, the Base trim level is eligible for optional technology packages.
The next step up is the SLT trim. Not only does it take advantage of all SLE's standard features, it also adds remote start and automatic climate control. The SLE and SLT trims can be equipped with a 181-horsepower 2.8-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel four-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. And right on top, there is the 2017 GMC Canyon Denali with all SLE's equipment and additional refinements such as a spray-in bedliner, heated steering wheel and front seats, forward collision warning, and wireless cellphone charging.
The GMC Canyon is a solid truck that delivers remarkable efficiency and has bold styling. But regardless of how good the vehicle can be, there is always plenty of room for improvement and customization.
