Two gasoline engines are available, a 6.2 L V8 capable of producing 385 hp and 430 lb-ft (base engine) and 6.8L V10, both with CNG/propane capability, and a 6.7 L turbodiesel Power Stroke V8 that delivers 440 hp and 925 lb-ft. All engines are directed through a 6-speed TorqShift SelectShift automatic gearbox. The 2017 F-450 received a range of new and upgraded features. For example, weight-carrying hitches for higher loads, improved engine-exhaust brake system and Trailer Tire Pressure Monitoring System for better control and confidence on the road, Dynamic Trailer Reverse Guidance for easier backing up, and up to 7 available cameras to see the world around you including a camera for the back of the trailer. Among other upgrades are bigger brakes, heavier-duty driveline, tougher transfer cases, and larger axles.

The exterior of the F-450 underwent a number of changes as well. The model badge is now placed vertically in fender vents. A pair of high beams and a pair of low beams allow for better illumination. A pickup box features LED illumination now. The Super Cab version of the vehicle offers 170 degree doors allowing to get in and out easier. For more convenience, the Ford F-450 comes with a 400W/110V outlet in the rear.
