The 2016 Toyota Tundra is capable of towing certified 10,500 lb with a 5.7 L V8 and Tow Package. Back in 2011, the Tundra became the first truck to adopt the SAE J2807 towing standard certification. It also comes with a heavy-duty alternator and battery and integrated transmission and engine coolers intended to deal with increased load. Towing hitch connectors (4- and 7-pin) are placed above the hitch to avoid possible damage during high-departure-angle driving. The 2016 Tundra with a Tow Package also offers a selectable Tow/Haul shift transmission mode. It adjusts transmission shift control and throttle sensitivity favoring and holding lower gears when you accelerate or decelerate to improve safety and control.
