With an enlarged battery pack now providing 53 miles of electric range, the 2016 Volt got a new, more powerful Atkinson-cycle 1.5-liter engine making 101 horsepower and 103 lb-ft of torque plus two smaller motors. Although the two generate by one-third less power than their predecessors, the new Volt came off as an agiler and faster accelerating (0-60 mph time) car than the previous generation.

In part, it is a result of weight savings. Even though the upgraded Chevy Volt is 3.3 inches longer and makes use of 130 pounds weightier electric drive equipment, it benefits from over 400 lbs lower curb weight. Extra inches of length were added for styling purposes as well as for providing a more comfortable ride for rear passengers. As well as the body look, the car’s interior is less eccentric; instead of science-fictional touch-sensitive capacitive controls, the vehicle features a set of more trivial but far more convenient push buttons located below the infotainment screen.
