In the era of pseudo 4x4s built on car underpinnings and offering moderate off-road performance, the Jeep Wrangler with its properly made suspension, drivetrain, underbody, and the rest of the mechanicals has the DNA of a true dirt messing machine. The current generation of this vehicle was launched back in 2006 and although its look still resembles those unpretentious forms of the original Jeep, it’s brand-new underneath and much more civilized inside. However, even though it’s in a class of its own, the Wrangler continues to be improved.
For the 2013 model year, the Wrangler comes with several interior upgrades and a couple of new special-edition versions elevating this already hard to beat off-roader to a different league. Just like the vehicle itself, the new features are pretty non-mainstream. In the ongoing battle for comfort, the Wrangler adds ambient interior lights and newly contoured seats. Jeep also provides a lever for one-handed rear-seat folding, second windshield washer nozzle, and optional soft-top lift assist. The options list is also widened with a soft canvas top.
Two of the new limited-edition versions are the Jeep Wrangler Moab and the Wrangler Rubicon 10th Anniversary. The former was named after the mountainous Utah region hosting the Moab Easter Jeep Safari. This new Jeep comes with the standard equipment and options similar to those offered for the ordinary Wrangler but has a modified exterior. While steel bumpers from both ends, rock sliders on the sills, tail light guards, and skid plate can be considered practical acquisitions, a black fuel filler door and a restyled hood serve the aesthetics solely. The other new Jeep, the Rubicon that came to celebrate the submodel’s anniversary, is, by contrast, more about undercarriage improvements. The new reinforced axles, upgraded part-time transfer case, locking differentials, another half of an inch of the ground clearance and satin-black painted aluminum wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich KM2 265/70-17 on/off-road tires make sure that no obstacle is too forbidding.
