An upscale twin to the Chevy Silverado, the first-gen GMC Sierra is a full-size pickup truck produced between 1998 and 2007 and featuring a comfortable and roomy interior, powerful engine, and good towing capacity. Three cab configurations were available – a two-door Regular cab, four-door Extended cab, and Crew Cab. The 2005 Sierra 1500 was offered with four engines – a 4.3L V6 (195 hp), 4.8L V8 (285 hp), 5.3L V8 (295 or 310 hp), and 6.0L V8 (up to 345 hp). All of these engines were mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Buyers could select from 2WD, 4WD, and AWD models, and the heavy-duty crew-cab Sierra 1500HD was also available.

There were five trim levels of this truck – Work, SL, SLE, SLT, and Denali. Most of these trims included chrome accessories throughout the front fascia and standard 17-inch wheels; the top Denali version featured the most appealing exterior with a premium grille, fog lights, chrome running boards, 20-inch wheels, and other nice accessories. However, changes to the 2005 model lineup compared to the previous model years were not that significant, and the list of available options was reduced. Some experts even consider that GMC took a step backward. For instance, the innovative all-wheel-steering system (Quadrasteer) was no longer available due to its high cost, and the rear drum brakes returned instead of the disc brakes. Thanks to large and soft seats, the interior was quite comfortable, but still it was more confined than that of the main competitors, including the Ford F-150 and Dodge Ram.

There were some innovations in 2005: GMC offered the hybrid Sierra 1500 for the first time. Equipped with a well-known 5.3-liter V8 and electric motor, this extended-cab model featured three 14-volt batteries besides the standard 12-volt one. However, this first hybrid was rather limited and not capable of running solely on electric power (unless you are braking at speed below 13 mph or so). It just can shut down the gasoline engine when you stop the vehicle, but all its systems including the air conditioner keep on working powered by an electric motor. Equipped with a much more powerful starter motor, the truck instantly restarts the engine when you have to accelerate. An electric motor doesn't contribute to its power – the truck is felt much like the non-hybrid models. In general, the benefits of such a limited hybrid system are mild – claimed fuel economy improvement is approximately 12%, mainly in a city.

2005 GMC Sierra 1500 Accessories Reviews

I ordered a cargo mat for a 2005 Jeep Liberty Renegade. I read the reviews and watched the promotional videos. Those lead me to purchase the Llyod Mat over any of the others. I had high expectations and I was somewhat let down once I received the mat. If you're in a hurry, give yourself time, the mat took about two weeks to deliver. Overall the mat is pretty good. I like that it's somewhat thin and flexible, which made it easy to roll out. The look is great and I came as close as I could to color matching my carpet interior. The part that disappointed me was the fit. I was expecting the mat to extend over the entire carpet from side to side. Unfortunately, the mat is cut short and uneven in places. There is about a half-inch gap around the sides and the portion near the trunk lid is not cut evenly. Since the mat is cut to order, there is no return. Minus the gaps from the sides, I do like the mat. It keeps all the things I store in my cargo area in place and it looks good. My only worry is when I carry liquids and if they spill. Check out the photos and video and you decided. I'm sure experiences will vary.
