It received an all-new 5-speed manual gearbox that significantly improves shift quality. An available 4.0 L I6 power plant became quieter and more refined and now provides lower emissions. The new engine is capable of generating 181 hp. A 2.5 L I4 remained the base engine with the power output topping out at 120 hp. Both offerings provide ample fuel efficiency – the base engine returns up to 20 mpg hwy, while the I6 delivers 1 mpg less. A 5-speed manual is the standard transmission in both cases. Exterior changes include the addition of three new color options.

The new audio system is now offered on the Sport grade, featuring a radio and cassette player. The line-topping Sahara comes with a radio/CD system. The 2000 Jeep Wrangler has a neat interior with a modular dashboard. Air conditioning, ventilation and heating knobs can be easily operated by gloved hands. The front seats provide comfort and good lateral support. Besides, the interior of the Wrangler can be easily cleaned thanks to water-resistant seat fabrics, removable carpet, drain holes, and slotted map holders. The vehicle offers enough space for four passengers.

Three trim levels are offered for the 2000 Jeep Wrangler, being the SE, Sport and Sahara. The base SE comes with vinyl seat trim, 15” steel wheels, and manual convertible top. Apart from a more potent power plant, the Sport grade adds the new audio system and other features. The top Sahara trim comes with 16” alloy wheels, fog lights, and cloth seat trim. Front tow hooks, gas shock absorbers, heavy-duty generator and battery, locking rear differential, hard top, and ABS are offered as options. A package that offers both soft and hard tops painted in matching colors is also available.
