Truck Bed Mounted Spare Tire Carriers

Accessing the spare tire underneath the bed of a pickup truck is a hassle on a nice day; add in some rain or snow and it becomes an unpleasant chore. It’s also not uncommon for the carrier’s winch mechanism, which is continually exposed to water, ice and road salt, to corrode and fail. And if you mount oversize tires on your truck, a larger diameter spare typically won’t fit with the factory carrier. Forget about fitment and reliability issues, and crawling around on the ground - upgrade to a truck bed mounted spare tire carrier.

With a truck bed mounted spare tire carrier, your spare is easily accessible, so you can change a tire quickly and be on your way, with none of the time-consuming hassles of the OE under bed carrier. No more groveling around and dealing with rusted and frozen winches. And our truck bed carriers can generally accommodate tires up to 40” tall, so you can outfit your rig with big off-road tires with aggressive tread and carry the same size spare. Plus, eliminating the under bed spare can give your rig more ground clearance.

When you’re upgrading the rubber on your off-roader, don’t be tempted to skimp and use the small, factory spare. Even if you never leave the pavement a matching spare can be integrated into the tire rotation pattern, and with regularly scheduled rotation you can realize overall longer tire life. But if you venture off-road with a smaller spare and get a flat, problems can occur when different diameter tires are mounted on each end of an axle with a locking differential, and you could experience suspension problems as well. With a full size spare you can change that flat tire and continue with your off-road adventures instead of having to limp home on a scrawny spare.

We offer several carrier styles that attach to the truck bed. Choose from basic carriers that retain the tire with straps flush to the bed; bolt-on racks that support the tire at an angle and retain it with straps or quick-release heads; or vertical holders that secure the tire at the side of the bed. Most of these carriers can be completely removed when you need full use of the bed, and with the spare removed on some models the mount frame can be used as a wheel chock for dirt bikes, motorcycles, or bicycles. The low-profile design of some carriers enable them to be used with a tonneau cover. For select applications we also have carriers that mount in the factory sliding bed channels.

But even if you regularly need all the capacity of your truck bed, you can still have a truck bed mounted spare. Our tire holder tailgates install in place of your factory tailgate. They can hold up to a 40” tire over the rear bumper, and when you need access to the bed, the tire holder swings out on sturdy hinges. We offer carriers that hold the tire vertically, and models that hold the tire low and centered, and at an angle. Choose the vertical mount when you want the most bed space. The low, angled mount was inspired by off-road racing trucks, and provides a low center of gravity and maximum rearward visibility. Some carriers also feature an available off-road jack mount.
