Hard Tops

Ah, the irresistible allure of a convertible - driving along with the sun on your face and the wind in your hair, feeling like you’re a part of the world instead of an observer cooped up in a box, and if its starts to rain you just raise the soft top. The perfect vehicle right? Well, maybe. While convertibles are undeniably fun, there are definitely tradeoffs to consider when a soft top is your only roof, particularly if you use your vehicle year-round.

Soft tops aren’t as insulated as hard tops, so the vehicle is usually noisier and harder to keep warm in winter and cool in summer. Soft tops often don’t seal as well as hard tops and can be leaky in a downpour. A soft top continually exposed to the weather will wear faster than a hard top, and soft tops generally require more care. Finally, a soft top is less secure than a hard top; a thief can easily slice open the fabric and make off with valuables.

The solution to the soft top vs. hard top dilemma is simple: have both! Many convertible drivers install a hard top during the winter months when cold, snow, and ice eliminate any possibility of top down cruising. While hard tops are heavier and bulkier than soft tops, they are not that hard to maneuver if you have help or a hoist, and they secure easily with ordinary hand tools, without the need for any body modifications. This ease of installation means a hard top can be quickly installed any time you want quiet operation, a warmer cabin, and more vehicle security.

We offer a large selection of hard tops in both squareback and fastback styles, for 2-door and 4-door models. These tops are constructed from strong, durable materials and have an attractive finish, and they’re thickly lined for quiet driving. Some tops are available with rear defroster and wiper, and others come with or without upper doors. And even with a hard top you don’t have to give up open air motoring completely because we offer tops with one or two power sunroofs and two-piece tops with a removable targa roof panel over the front seats.

Another hard surface alternative for protection is the Skytop. This smoke finish, impact resistant, aircraft-grade acrylic panel secures easily to the factory roll cage with hook and loop fastener straps. A front section is available for 2 and 4-door models as well as a rear section for 4-door vehicles. If it starts to rain or you just want some relief from the sun and wind, the Skytop can be quickly installed. The tinting reduces glare while still allowing clear visibility, for protection without the loss of that open air feel.
