With the new aluminum architecture and the latest form of self-leveling suspension system made up of mostly aluminum components, the 2018 Phantom provides a ‘Magic Carpet Ride’, as described by Rolls-Royce. The suspension continuously adjusts the electronically controlled air springs to react to acceleration, steering commands, and information based on the advanced windshield-integrated camera system. The latter scans the road ahead, signaling the suspension to make the necessary adjustments before the wheels hit a bump. The engine powering the eighth-generation Phantom was heavily revised in order to provide more low-end power at lower revolutions to comply with Rolls Royce's 'silent car' philosophy. A twin-turbo 6.75-liter V12 replaces the previous naturally-aspirated V12 motor. The new engine delivers 563 hp and 664 pound-feet of twist and is mated to a satellite-aided 8-speed transmission sourced from ZF.

As always, the interior of the Phantom is opulent. The instrument panel design, dubbed The Gallery, is accentuated with a glass panel that stretches across the dash. Within the dashboard, there are digital dials with chrome surrounds; a large retractable infotainment display dominates the center console.
