The biggest change, however, was brought to the suspension and power steering of the MX-5. The engine and transmission lineup for the 2018 model remained the same, though, with the MX-5 soldiering on with a 6-speed manual/automatic and either a 1.5L or 2.0L SkyActiv-G powerplant. The latter develops a little over 150 HP at 6,000 rpm and 148 lb-ft of torque at 4,600 rpm. The 2.0L naturally aspirated inline-4 is the only option available for the U.S. market. Unfortunately, Mazda isn’t going to produce more powerful engines. However, the Miata chassis can definitely handle more than 155 horses. Designers focused on giving the MX-5 Miata beautiful proportions translated through a deep expression of the unique KODO design theme. With the roof up, the Miata looks more like a fastback coupe, but when the roof is down, a small section of it remains and the Miata looks like a Targa-top. The interior of the Miata didn’t get major changes as well; it still comes with playful design.
