The 2020 Honda Civic has been treated with a mild update including some stylish tweaks, mechanical changes, and equipment improvements for its hatchback version. As last year’s overhaul didn't leave much to be improved on sedan and coupe models, they return virtually unchanged. Although it has been known as the go-to model in the USA for many years, the Civic is still very popular and has a strong presence on the road. This year's refresh includes many new 2020 Honda Civic accessories and redesigned exterior parts. Up front, the hatchback got darker headlights that flank a revised grille. Improved LED headlights are now available on Sport Touring models. On the back, the newcomer has a slightly different rear bumper. New dark gray or black wheels round out the list of exterior changes. The improvements are minor but significant enough to make the newbie look more attractive compared to the outgoing version.
The best news about the 2020 Civic hatchback, though, is that a six-speed manual can now also be had on the Sport Touring. It was previously offered only on Sport versions. A CVT remains available across the line. Whatever the transmission, the vehicle is powered by a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Depending on the flavor, it makes either 174 HP or 180 HP. Sedan and coupe versions hide a 2.0-liter four-cylinder mill capable of generating 158 HP under their hoods. Just like before, all parts and accessories beneath the sheetmetal operate in perfect harmony to ensure the Civic provides robust driving performance.
The Civic Type R enters 2020 with a revised design inside and out, upgraded suspension and brakes, and a slew of electronic driver aids. On the outside, there’s an exciting new blue body paint option and a larger grille opening to let in more air to cool the engine down. Interior tweaks include a different steering wheel wrapping material and a shorter-throw stick. Important changes are made to the suspension, which gets retuned shocks and stiffer rear bushings. The new rotor and pad combo is said to resist brake fade. The Honda Sensing suite of safety technologies is now standard. As before, there’s a 306-hp turbo four under the hood. The Europe-only 2020 Civic Type R Sport Line is a toned-down, less hardcore version of the hot hatch. It has a downsized rear wing and replaces 20-inch wheels with 19-inchers. The interior got improved sound insulation and the seats with black upholstery instead of the red seats of the more extreme Type R.
Inside, the vehicle got additional sound-deadening material, which ensures even quieter driving experience than ever before. The carmaker also differentiated trim levels with different dash trim and a number of distinctive accessories. Thus, Sport versions come with a geometrical pattern, while LX and EX ones feature a painted pattern. When upgrading to the EX-L or Sport Touring, you'll get brushed-black dashboard trim. Honda also offers customers a new eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat with the EX hatchback. This year's model also got a number of niceties which aim to make any trip even more fun and enjoyable. For instance, the Sport trim brings an infotainment system with eight speakers and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Although most models got many 2020 Honda Civic parts redesigned for fresher looks and previously unavailable features, the EX-L suffered the downgrade. This year, it comes without the navigation system. Now, it is exclusively available on Sport Touring versions.
