Sold between 1985 and 1991, the Subaru XT was a two door coupe, which considered to be the most aerodynamic car in the world. It was the first Subaru vehicle, which differed greatly from earlier models as it wasn’t designed for commercial uses or to carry loads. Initially, the Subaru XT was available with either front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. In 1987 the automaker switched to all-wheel drive. The car was loaded with features such as a turbocharger, adjustable height suspension, optional digital instrument cluster, computer controlled engine and transmission that were uncommon for small cars. The drivers had a choice of two engines, a 1.8 L EA-82 H4 making 97 HP and turbocharged 1.8 L EA-82 H4 producing 112 HP. The engine could be paired with either a manual or automatic transmission. Thanks to a horizontally opposed cylinder layout, the unique wedge body shape became possible.

The vehicle was quite impressive inside as featured a lot of aircraft-like features such as wiper controls, climate control and pod mounted lighting. It was outfitted with a trip computer, digital dash display, and adjustable suspension height. The instrument cluster was ergonomically designed allowing for easy access to all switches.
