The production of the Mercury Marquis was launched in 1967. At first it was offered to customers only as a two-door hardtop, but between 1969 and 1978 the line was extended with a 2-door convertible, 4-door hardtop / pillared hardtop and 5-door station wagon. In 1979, the Marquis went through another update and the new release was presented in 2- and 4-door sedan and 4-door station wagon body styles. A 2-door version was dropped in 1983. During its production run, the model was powered by various eight-cylinder engines: a 4.9L V8, 5.8L V8, 6.4L V8, 6.6L V8, 6.7L V8, 7.0L V8, and 7.5L V8. Two six-cylinder (3.3L I6 and 3.8L V6) and one four-cylinder (2.3L I4) options were also available. The Marquis offered only an automatic transmission. The car was ceased in 1986.
