The EQS is the automobile manufacturer’s first vehicle built on a dedicated EV platform, as opposed to the already revealed EQ-branded models that use a revamped internal combustion architecture. The 2022 sedan is available in two trim levels at launch. The EQS450+ features a single 329-hp electric motor driving the rear wheels. The EQS580 4Matic, as its name implies, has an all-wheel-drive layout provided by two motors with a combined output of 516 hp and 631 lb-ft of torque. Regardless of the model, a 107.8-kWh battery provides power, offering roughly 360 miles of range for the EQS450+ and 315 miles for the EQS580. The Airmatic air suspension that constantly adapts to road conditions is standard. Rear steering is also offered by default, helping with maneuverability.

The 2022 EQS is available as a four-or five-seater. It is the sedan’s sumptuous, ultra-high-tech interior that impresses the most. A gigantic optional display that spans the entire dash is a barn burner. Called a Hyperscreen, it combines three OLED screens into a single curved panel. A more traditional standard setup includes a 12.8-inch touchscreen for the MBUX infotainment system (which supports Hey Mercedes voice commands) and a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. Another cool tech feature is the Power Nap mode that makes the cabin comfortable for sleeping while the driver is waiting for the battery to charge. While there is no frunk, a 22-cubic-feet trunk, or hatch, can hold an ample amount of luggage.
