The Toyota Tundra was introduced in 2000. Its first generation had some similarities with the smaller sized Toyota T-100, including the use of a 3.4L V6 engine. The Tundra took some visual design cues from the compact Toyota Tacoma. It happened to be the first full-size pickup produced by a Japanese manufacturer in North America. The vehicle was conceived as an easy-to-use truck for everyday commuting, capable of handling occasional visits to a hardware store. To draw interest of more serious truck users who continued to buy heavy domestic haulers, Toyota’s designers completely reinvented the Tundra and presented the second generation in 2006 at the Chicago Auto Show. The truck is offered in SR, SR5, and Limited trims. It’s available in Regular Cab, Double Cab, and CrewMax body styles with three bed lengths available.
Under the hood of the new truck, you can find a 4.0L V6 producing 236 horsepower, a 4.7L V8 good for 271 horsepower, or a completely new, much more powerful, optional for all trims 5.8L V8 engine capable of 381 horsepower. The first two engines are paired with a five-speed automatic transmission, and the big V8 uses a six-speed automatic. All variants of the 2007 Tundra can be equipped with 4x2 or optional 4x4 drive. The 4x2 truck can tow up to 10,800 pounds. As for some of the safety features, the 2007 Toyota Tundra comes with stability and traction control, ABS brakes, front, side and full-length side curtain airbags.
In terms of optional equipment, besides power, the 2007 Toyota Tundra SR5 brings the comfort of electric windows, seats, door locks and mirrors, alongside keyless entry and start. The Limited trim can offer automatic dual-zone climate control, a 10-speaker JBL stereo system with rear-seat entertainment, the navigation system with backup camera, cruise control, and 20-inch alloy wheels. Other exterior features may include extendable side mirrors, chrome bumpers, and a bed rail system with adjustable tie-downs. In general, Toyota’s designers have given the second generation Tundra a simple but expressive look. No one will confuse it with the previous iterations of this model.
