Weight distribution is very important when it comes to towing any trailer that you have. This is what you should keep in mind when purchasing Toyota Highlander trailer hitches. The only way that you can guarantee your safety, that of your passengers and other drivers on the road is by having the correct combination of car weight, trailer size and type of hitch. When towing a trailer, only 10% of its total weight should be on the tongue of the hitch. If for example you have a trailer that is 1000lb, only 100lb should be on the rear of the car pushing it down. This is the only weight that most cars would handle. If you have a trailer that is heavier than this, then your car might not handle such weight while in motion and will instead make your front wheel lighter making steering risky. The headlights of your car will also be blinding to other on coming cars. To avoid all this, it is best to have a weight distributing hitch that will ensure that there is equal distribution of the weight on the front tires as well.
It might seem like a good idea to shift some of the load that you have carried in your trailer by making use of sway control devises. After all, the reason as to why your trailer would sway is lack of enough weight on the tongue. However, this is only a temporary solution. To get 100% stability on the car, you have to have the correct hitch as dictated by the maximum weight capacity of your Toyota Highlander.
