EXEDY is a Tier 1 OEM supplier to all major automotive, and off-highway manufacturers across the globe. This means EXEDY works hand in hand to engineer products to exact specifications and requirement as set forth by the OE manufacturer. They even supply the products sold as "OEM".
EXEDY Stage 1 Organic Racing Clutches only use premium friction materials that are resistant to slippage and burst. Increased clamp loads give the necessary capacity to handle modified engines. This is the ideal clutch for street and light horsepower track use.
Drivability is similar to the stock clutch. Pedal efforts will be slightly higher because of the higher clamp loads. All of our Stage 1 clutch discs have spring center dampers to reduce drivetrain shock and provide smooth clutch engagement.
This advanced facing material provides the high heat resistance essential for motorsports. It was developed by reviewing both the copper wire ratio and the composition of the high strength fiber. The Ultra Fiber Disc maintains the superior half-engagement feeling specific to the Organic material. With improved high heat resistance, it provides the functionality essential for street performance and mild racing applications.
These clutch covers are designed to achieve a clamping load that is approx. 40% higher than the genuine part allowing a higher torque transmitting capacity. Ductile material is used for all pressure plates and, high burst strength can be achieved in all temperature ranges.
EXEDY cerametallic clutches are designed to handle the abuse of high power modified engines. Cerametallic friction material can handle much more abuse than stock type disc assemblies without slipping and fading.
All EXEDY Stage 2 cerametallic clutch discs have sprung center dampers to reduce the impact and shock loads transmitted through the drivetrain. EXEDY offers two types of cerametallic discs, “thick” and “thin” along with a cushion button disc.
The “thick” discs have better heat capacity and therefore better durability in demanding applications. Even with the “thick” disc, three and four puck designs typically have less inertia than a stock disc and work well for street, rally and track use.
The “thin” discs offer greatly reduced inertia to improve shift effort, allow for quicker shifting, and improve synchro durability. These discs are approximately 1/2 the thickness of a stock disc and are recommended for circuit track use only.
The remarkable Cushion Button Disc combines cerametallic button facing with marcel cushion springs to maintain comfortable driving while supporting a respectable amount of power. It?s smooth engagement is ideal for the street, and thanks to its heavy duty sprung hub dampening assembly, can handle the power of high torque motors. The Cushion Button Disc is currently available for limited applications, however more fitments will be released in the near future.
These clutch covers are designed to achieve a clamping load that is approx. 40% higher than the genuine part allowing a higher torque transmitting capacity. Ductile material is used for all pressure plates and, high burst strength can be achieved in all temperature ranges.
The EXEDY Hyper Single Series clutch is engineered to optimize the performance of cars that are moderately modified, but do not require the clutch capacity of a multi-plate clutch. Similar to multi-plate clutches, it has a purple anodized, forged aluminum cover. The aluminum cover is stiffer than a stamped cover and therefore allows a higher lever ratio to maintain the pedal efforts at a reasonable level. There is no clamp load deflection as found in a pressed metal type cover. Additionally, the pressure plate features a series of turbine-like, air flow enhancing vanes that keep the clutch cooler under extreme operating conditions to improve wear life.
All Hyper Single clutches come with a chromoly steel flywheel and are normally supplied with a 6-puck cerametallic facing and a spring center damper disc assembly. However, on select vehicles, the new VF (Various Friction) disc may be offered. The chromoly flywheel is lighter than OEM for improved engine response, and a lighter overall assembly. The disc is generally smaller and thinner than the OEM disc making for lower inertia and therefore quicker, easier shifting and less wear and tear on the transmission synchros. The higher clamp load and cerametallic friction facings give approximately twice the holding torque of the OEM clutch and higher than other single disc clutches.
High friction coefficient, low wear, and a special heat resistant material [T5001] has been applied to enable the clutch size to be reduced which in turn lowers mass inertia and improves shift responses for faster gear changes particularly in racing applications. Durability is improved with the use of a stronger, smaller damper disc, designed especially for the Hyper Single clutch.
The VF enables the driver to operate the clutch through an easy-to-feel half engagement thanks to the Ultra Fiber friction material all while having a high heat dissipation and torque capacity due to the integrated metal facing. Furthermore, pedal effort has been drastically reduced and improved by the re-engineering and re-designing of the engagement point with newly developed cushioning plates.
For high-powered applications, EXEDY offers twin and triple Multi-Plate clutches. These are designed for high power street action as well as drag, road and rally racing. The twin plate clutches are rated for approximately 500 ft/lbs of torque and the triple plates are rated for approximately 800 ft/lbs of torque, both figures at the flywheel. Twins come with both spring damper discs or solid discs depending on application, whereas triples are all solid discs and not recommended for street use.
All EXEDY Hyper Multi-Plate clutches come with a lightweight, chromoly steel flywheel and the famous purple anodized forged aluminum clutch cover. Depending on the application, they have both strap drive and lug drive models. All have T5001 cerametallic friction materials for extreme heat resistance. Surprisingly, even with it?s additional power capability, most multi-plate clutches exhibit light pedal pressure thanks to a half-engaged "zone" provided by the patented clutch "cushion" function.
This model has been developed for high powered street cars and race cars with up to approximately 600TQ @ FW. They feature ventilated, thick intermediate plates for improved life and spring damper discs to protect your transmission and drive line. "HD" kits have slightly high clamp load than their "SD" counterparts and have approximately 20% higher power capacity.
This model has been developed for high performance street cars with up to approximately 550TQ @ FW. They feature full faced organic friction discs for improved drivability while maintaining excellent power holding capability.
These clutch covers are designed to achieve a clamping load that is approx. 40% higher than the genuine part allowing a higher torque transmitting capacity. Ductile material is used for all pressure plates and, high burst strength can be achieved in all temperature ranges.
This model has three plates and is developed specifically for high power applications such as over 800 ft/lbs of torque at the flywheel for drag racing. It handles high torque loads and shifts smooth, and because of the lightweight clutch discs, you can reduce your shift times.
The new standard for racing clutches is now available, with the EXEDY Hyper Compe Series. The ultralight metal multi-plate was developed with a focus on those interested in racing of all sorts. This fields-proven performer has posted numerous wins and boasts excellent reliability in a variety of leading categories. Exceptionally fast shifting and the lowest possible weight are the features of this competition model.
Available in both Compe-R and Compe-D configuration, drivers are given the choice of rigid or damper discs depending on their needs. Both however come equipped with a lightweight forged aluminum clutch cover and ultra-light drilled chromium-molydenum flywheel, which allows us to achieve the lightest possible setup. Additionally, the grooved center plate provides improved disc release for better disengagement at any RPM.
The Compe-R will be the absolute lightest setup available, utilizing 6 puck, 180mm or 200mm rigid discs. The Compe-R excels in environments such as time attack and Gymkhana, where fast shifting is desired over streetability.
The Compe-D is an updated version of the Compe-R which uses a high-capacity damper disc that protects the drivetrain from damage. The Compe-D is an ultralight metal twin model with damper discs developed for frequent drift and circuit driving along with limited street use.
The flagship model of EXEDY clutches, the Hyper Carbon Series. In 1995 EXEDY supplied carbon clutch products for use in the pinnacle series of motorsport; Formula One. This same technology is now applied to carbon clutches developed by EXEDY for use on the street and track. These clutches are lightweight, durable and resilient to high heat, contributing to an improvement in track times. Available in single, twin and triple designs with both rigid or damper discs for a full range of power holding capacity.
EXEDY carbon discs are able to perform through long durations of high rotational velocity due to our precise application of carbon. The fibers are set one-by-one in a weaving pattern and baked at more than 3600°F, finalizing the strengthening process. Heat expansion rate is 1/20th of iron therefore eliminating a change in clutch feel that may happen due to distortion caused by expansion during driving. Carbon material also possesses a “non-stick” characteristic that eliminates disengagement problems.
The next generation of clutch systems by EXEDY is the Hyper Carbon-D, the revolutionary carbon clutch system. Carbon-D was developed to achieve the ultimate goal of comfort and streetability by absorbing noise and vibration emitted from drivetrain components such as the differential, transmission and engine. The Carbon-D system is designed to protect the drivetrain by absorbing and dissipating “shock torque” by utilizing EXEDY Patented Technology. Superior engineering enables the Carbon-D clutch system to posses an ideal clutch engagement position, increased clamp loads and lower pedal effort, while the unique carbon fiber friction material allows comfortable half-engaged clutch operation and responsive gear changes. The EXEDY Hyper Carbon-D is available in both single and twin clutch configurations.
The weight of a carbon clutch disc is one third that of a metallic disc. Utilizing a high friction coefficient Hyper Carbon disc which allows for quicker shift response. Low inertia discs allow the transmission to synchronize in a shorter space of time eliminating time loss during shift changing while also reducing the applied load to the synchronizer.
By controlling the carbon fibers and baking temperature, the cross layer type carbon material, which is the most appropriate for high revolution strength and high torque transmission, is applied to tuning car clutches. Semi-carbon clutches offer lightweight, high heat resistance and a stable friction coefficient. EXEDY carbon clutches are tuned so that at a lower temperature, engagement feeling is improved and conversely at high temperatures, engagement is ideal for spirited driving.
The new EXEDY Hyper Builder Series allows the racer or custom car builder to assemble a clutch kit to fit their specific application. These kits are similar to Hyper Multi Plate kits, but are supplied WITHOUT a flywheel. The Builder Kits can be used with any of the available flywheels or with your custom made flywheel to match an EXEDY kit to virtually any transmission.
All EXEDY Hyper Builder Series kits all come with HD clamp load and a push type diaphragm for use with a 44-54mm release bearing. The lightweight cerametallic clutch discs are all 200mm diameter with solid hub for reduced mass and high torque holding capacities. Clamp load on every kit is a pedal friendly 2653, which holds 615 torque on twin setups and 923 torque on Triples.
EXEDY Lightweight Flywheels combine low weight, low inertia and high thermal capacity. They are designed for light to moderately tuned racing cars for drag racing, autocross and rally events, as well as street usage. They are made from solid one-piece billet chromoly steel or chromoly steel forgings. They are specifically designed to reduce weight and inertia for better engine response. Most incorporate special design features to enhance the airflow which improves the cooling of the clutch.
The ring gear teeth are integrated onto the flywheel unlike an aluminum flywheel where the ring gear is pressed onto the flywheel and has the possibility of separating from the flywheel due to the different expansion coefficients of aluminum and steel. Newly available are lightweight, solid replacements for vehicles fitted with OE dual mass flywheels. EXEDY lightweight flywheels have passed engineering tests to 15,000-18,000 RPM. They are guaranteed not to fail to the said RPM, and are all SFI approved.
All EXEDY Lightweight Flywheels are made from either forged or billet chromoly steel. Chromoly is an abbreviation for "chromium-molybdenum steel" due to it?s property of incorporating alloy elements chromium and molybdenum. Thanks to this combination of materials, chromoly has an excellent strength to weight ratio and is considerably stronger and harder than standard 1020 steel or other aluminum flywheels on the market.
The SFI Specification establishes uniform test procedures and minimum standards for evaluating and determining performance capabilities specifically for replacement flywheels used by individuals engaged in competitive motorsports. All EXEDY chromoly Lightweight Flywheels meet or exceed these standards.
EXEDY Replacement Parts are the essence of the commitment to quality that comes with every EXEDY product. As friction products, there will always be parts that wear.
