The Nissan Z offers handling prowess and a lot of curb appeal at an affordable price, just like the revered 370Z it’s replacing. Kicking off the seventh generation of the Z-car line, the 2023 model isn’t all-new from the ground up, but it certainly received a serious makeover in the departments that needed it. It rolls out with sharper styling, a more powerful turbocharged engine, and a modern interior, while retaining a two-seat coupe body style, rear-wheel drive, and the enthusiast’s favorite – a manual transmission. Like any other Z-badged performer, it is well-fitted for further customization. No matter what you’re going to do with your sports car, in our online store, you’ll find high-quality 2023 Nissan Z accessories and parts for a project of any kind.
The newcomer continues using the FM platform shared with the 370Z, 350Z, and other Nissan/Infiniti offerings. Driveline parts and the suspension setup carry over from the predecessor, too, although dampers and spring rates received different tuning. The big news is, of course, ditching a naturally-aspirated V6 for a turbo engine. The new unit is a 3.0-liter V6 that puts out 400 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Buyers can choose from a short-throw 6-speed manual gearbox drawn from the outgoing model and a new 9-speed automatic also found in the Frontier. For the first time, Nissan equips its Z car with electric-assisted steering.
Two trim levels are available for the 2023 Z, named the Sport and Performance. There’s also a limited-production Proto Spec model with 240 units on offer, each of which boasts a two-tone black-and-yellow exterior, bronze wheels, and yellow calipers. The entry-level Z Sport offers a crisp driving experience as is, but the Z Performance ups the ante with a bigger set of alloy wheels and staggered tires, stronger brakes, spoilers, a more aggressive-sounding dual exhaust system, sportier suspension tuning as an option, and available launch control. For further upgrades, check out our sizable array of 2023 Nissan Z parts and accessories.
Although the interior layout is familiar, the overall design is all-new, combining vintage and modern accents in a tasteful way and featuring the cues borrowed from a variety of previous Z cars. Representing the modern side of things is in-cabin technology, which includes a standard 12.3-inch digital display, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment with smartphone connectivity (a 9-inch system with navigation is optional), and driver assists that range from blind spot monitoring to adaptive cruise control. One of the interesting cabin details is a three-gauge setup in the center stack that shows boost, turbo RPM, and volts.
