The second generation of Nissan’s electric car, the Leaf, was unveiled for the 2018 model year. The vehicle is constructed on the new version of the corporate EV platform. It underwent a number of structural changes that allow for using a modular battery-pack architecture. In addition, new approaches to managing battery temperature and power flow will meet the needs of drivers living in severe climate conditions. Just like the first generation, the 2018 Nissan Leaf is a front-wheel drive vehicle available in a sole 5-door hatchback body style. The 2018 Leaf provides a higher power output (147 hp) and a greater driving range of 150 miles thanks to a combination of a 40 kWh battery and an 80-kilowatt motor. Its starting price of $29,990, which is even lower than the last year's price as well as that of the main competitors, makes it an appealing choice for those looking for an affordable electric car.
The exterior of the new Leaf underwent certain changes as well. The front end features the new styling inherent to the models of the current Nissan line. There is a V-shaped taillight cluster in the rear, similar to the Juke. The boot lid of the 2018 Nissan Leaf has a more conventional shape compared to the previous version. There is a number of variants available to meet the needs of different drivers. They offer different packs and hence different single-charge ranges, with the top-of-the-line grade providing the range of more than 200 miles. As the car intended for driving in the city, the 2018 Leaf delivers excellent performance at low speeds that are preferred in the city.
The Leaf is a small city car, but it doesn't mean it has to be dull and boring. Nissan has proved that with the Leaf Nismo concept, a cute little emissions-free car that will probably take us a step further to the era of all-electric hot hatches. Its exterior has been livened up with aggressive additions such as split-spoke wheels wrapped in grippy performance tires, body kit, and contrasting red stripes. Sporty red accents have also been added to the interior. The Nissan Leaf Nismo is not all about visual sportiness: its suspension is sport tuned and computer systems are revised to add torque for flashy acceleration.
The second-generation Leaf uses the latest version of the advanced autonomous drive technology named ProPilot. It employs a number of units, including specialized HMI, laser scanners, cameras, and millimeter wave radar and allows the vehicle to work in an autonomous manner on both busy city roads and highway after you enter the destination point into the navigation system of your vehicle. This state-of-the-art technology is easy to use, being intended to significantly reduce the number of accidents. Together with the all-electric powertrain of the 2018 Nissan Leaf, it will make fantastic zero-fatality and zero-emissions vehicles from the future much closer.
