The 2017 Clarity has a 174-horsepower electric motor under the hood, teamed with a hydrogen fuel cell and a small 1.7-kWh battery, which also recharges from a fuel cell. Honda has been working on hydrogen technology for over 20 years and got impressive results by reducing a fuel cell’s physical volume enough to fit it under the hood along with the electric motor for the first time in the history of hydrogen vehicles. The 2017 Clarity’s predecessor, for instance, had a fuel cell placed between the front seats.

There is a 6-gallon hydrogen tank that is now located under the rear seats, while a larger 31-gallon tank is placed right behind them, which translates into tiny cargo space of only 12 cubic feet. The interior design, however, features premium-quality materials and advanced comfort. The 2017 Honda Clarity is available in a single trim level but is stuffed with driving aids and audio & electronics you can expect from a high-tech vehicle.
