Built for the toughest jobs, the Volkswagen Crafter was released in 2006 as a replacement for the LT nameplate, which was launched far back in 1975. The Crafter is the largest Volkswagen 3- to 5-tonne van that is also known as the LT3 (the production plant code of the vehicle). The first generation Crafter shared its platform and many features with the Mercedes Sprinter and came in various wheelbase and body options. The vehicle offered three wheelbases and roof heights as well as four load compartment lengths to choose from. But no matter the version of the van, all Volkswagen Crafter parts and accessories worked in great balance to deliver reliable and durable performance.
The first Crafter came with a wide choice of engines to meet different needs of customers. Thus, the engine line included 4 five-cylinder engines generating from 86 HP up to 160 HP. Each engine offered great fuel efficiency in addition to low emissions. Customers could choose between a six-speed manual and an automated manual transmission. For the 2011 model year, the automaker upgraded the van with 2.0 L common rail TDI engines across its range. Those engines offered power outputs from 107 HP to 160 HP. Thanks to BlueMotion Technology, the units ensured savings in fuel costs and reduced emissions (dropped by between 10 and 20 percent). In addition to those changes, the Crafter got a refreshed front grille, redesigned instruments, and new upholstery. In three years, the automaker provided the vehicle with a built-in Diesel Particulate Filter as well as SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) systems to achieve strict emission limits.
In 2016, Volkswagen introduced the all-new Crafter that keeps offering customers a wide choice of body styles. Just like before, all Volkswagen Crafter accessories and parts are carefully crafted and united to ensure the van can handle anything the road can throw at it. Unlike the previous model, the new Crafter doesn’t share its platform with the Sprinter. The van is powered by a 2.0 TDI engine carried over from the popular T6 Transporter. That four-cylinder diesel engine is offered in 4 versions with power outputs from 100 HP to 174 HP. Compared to many other large vans offered in the industry, the Crafter features smooth and light steering, which ensures easier navigating through the heavy traffic and tight streets. Inside, all Volkswagen Crafter accessories and parts are perfectly united to create a tough-looking cab interior with durable plastics in black and gray colors.
