Setrab designs and manufactures customised aluminium radiators and heat exchangers in small to medium quantities for high performance OEM automotive and other vehicle applications.
We supply many of the world’s premium car brands, e.g. Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lexus, Lotus, and Mercedes, as well as many other vehicle manufactures, e.g. Bobcat, Husqvarna, Scania, Volvo, and Wirtgen. Our products are also highly suitable for a number of stationary applications.
Setrab's target customer is an OEM manufacturer looking for high quality radiators and heat exchangers that are designed for the application from a fit and functionality perspective. Our customer is typically looking for a supplier that can manage development projects in a proactive and timely manner, and that can meet the highest standards from a quality and environmental management perspective.
We compete on our ability to quickly provide customised, high-quality, high performing solutions at a competitive total cost.
Setrab was founded in 1968 as a trading company. The company imported various racing-related products to the Scandinavian market.
In the mid 1970s, Setrab started supplying oil coolers to Saab Automobile and Volvo Cars for a number of production models. Due to supplier capacity constraints, Setrab decided to setup its own manufacturing of oil coolers in 1979.
During the 1980s, Setrab established relationships with a number of high performance car manufacturers, e.g. Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, and Bentley/Rolls Royce. However, Saab and Volvo still generated 80% of turnover.
At the beginning of the 1990s Setrab took a decision to focus solely on small to medium-sized volumes of customised high performance oil coolers for automotive and industrial applications.
In the mid 2000s the strategy was modified to focus on fewer market segments and higher contract volumes. A brand new manufacturing facility was set up in Karlino in Poland in 2007 to allow Setrab to manufacture higher volume products at a lower cost.
Since then we have added a number of other brazed aluminium products to our range, e.g. charge-air coolers, water radiators, and plate heat exchangers, in order to become a more complete systems supplier to our OEM customers.
Quality Assurance
Setrab operates a unified management system for quality, environment and work place. The management system has been audited by Bureau Veritas and found to be in accordance with the requirements of the ISO/TS 16949 and ISO 14001 standards.
Setrab is committed to a 0-fault strategy and we work towards a target of 30-100-0. In other words, we aim to achieve 100% delivery performance and 0 faults 30 days after start of production.
Design and Development
Setrab is a full development partner to our OEM customers. We utilize Kuli, FEM, CFD, and propriatery software to simulate and optimize cooler design, Catia and various Autocad systems for cooler design, and we are able to exchange CAD information electronically.
We have an on-site lab facility and external test partners to allow us to carry out all relevant development and validation testing.
Rapid prototyping is one of our strengths and our plant in Sweden is set up to carry out development work and manufacturing in the same building to allow us to manufacturize new products easily.
Setrab Production System (SPS)
SPS is a lean-based framework for systematically eliminating waste and driving quality and productivity improvements. It provides values, principles, and tools to manage, measure, and improve Setrab’s key processes. SPS was launched as a group-wide program in 2007 and it has enabled us to achieve significant reductions in manufacturing lead times and internal scrap rates, resulting in world-class product quality and delivery performance.
