Pirelli’s Self-Sealing tires allow to keep your car stable to continue your journey safely. Taking road safety and driving pleasure to the next level: allows you to keep driving, even with a punctured tire, while maintaining complete control of the vehicle.
1. TECHNOLOGY
Pirelli’s Self-Sealing tires are made up of a material that forms a sealing layer, which is placed inside the tire in the area corresponding to the tread pattern. The material tightly blocks every possible air leakage in the event of a puncture that passes through the tire, with or without an external object still present.
2. APPLICATION
The Seal Inside Technology does not need dedicated rims and TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) to be used safely on a vehicle; it can be used on any kind of vehicle depending on the tyre size.
3. MATERIAL
The Seal Inside tyre deals immediately with the hole and, in most cases, its fast and effective action means that the driver won’t even realize that the tyre has been punctured.
The sealing mastic sticks to the object causing the puncture, creating a seal around the object while it remains in the tire.
When the object is removed from the tire, the sealing mastic is “drawn” by the object into the hole, sealing the edges of the hole.
Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat Technology: the ability to keep driving, even with a flat tire, while maintaining control of the vehicle.
Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat™ tires represent the most comprehensive approach to road safety and driving pleasure, they are designed to keep your car or SUV stable for you to continue your journey safely for 80 km (50 miles) at a maximum speed of 80 km/h (50 mph).
1. TECHNOLOGY
Pirelli Self-Supporting Run Flat™ tires are the result of the innovative Pirelli MIRS™ production process entirely overseen by computers that guarantees an end result characterized by the highest standards of quality and reliability.
2. APPLICATION
The absence of the spare wheel means more freedom during car design development, reduced vehicle weight and more trunk space for the end user
Pirelli run flat tires support lateral and transversal loads of the vehicle even in the absence of tire pressure
The PIRELLI NOISE CANCELLING SYSTEM™ (PNCS) is the best solution for reducing the noise generated by the tires on the road. The vibrations that are generated in the tire structure and inside the car are called CAVITY NOISE: Pirelli Noise Cancelling System can resolve this phenomenon, offering significantly improved driving comfort.
1. MATERIAL
Foam material inside the tire cavity absorbs the resonant air wave.
2. TECHNOLOGY
Open cell foams are commonly used to maximize the interactive surface: the sound wave is scattered inside and between cells, leading to noise reduction.
Tire cavity noise is caused by resonance of air contained inside the tire cavity during rotation, which is then transmitted to the inside of the car.
Pirelli's innovative polyurethane sponge absorbs these vibrations and reduces noise
The first system which monitors tyres and informs the driver on an app was presented by Pirelli.
At a first glance, it may look like a regular P Zero or Winter Sottozero tyre. Actually, the tyre is a concentration of artificial intelligence and is fitted with a sensor to perform a very specific task: to detect data inside the tyre while travelling and parked to integrate the information displayed on the onboard computer of the car and provide information on the tyre operating conditions, wear and maintenance to the driver.
The new Pirelli system is designed for the most demanding motorists and offers customised services localised according to the driver's needs. Connesso has a complex architecture but is easy to use. A sensor embedded in the tyre groove is connected to a control unit and to a smartphone running an app, which is connected to the Pirelli Cloud, in turn. The first version of Pirelli Connesso introduced in world preview in Geneva can recognise the tyre ID and indicate pressure and temperature also when the car is parked: information sent by the sensor includes static vertical load and mileage. In future releases, Pirelli Connesso will make more data available, including an estimate of the distance which can still be travelled with the tyres and an electronic pressure gauge function to provide exact values during inflation in real time without needing to wait for the tyres to cool down.
How can Pirelli Connesso interface with the driver? The driver is informed by means of alerts when the pressure of one or more tyres is no longer correct or when the wear limit is approaching. In both cases, by using a geopositioning system, the app can locate the closest available workshop and directly book an appointment to have the pressure adjusted or the tyres replaced. The system is easy to use and handy .All information appears directly on the driver's smartphone.
Unlike the current pressure detection systems (TPMS) on cars, Pirelli Connesso is designed to work both when the car is moving and stationary: in a later release, it will also be able to indicate pressure drops remotely and initiate the replacement and maintenance procedures at the place where the car is located. This system allows predictive tyre maintenance and is designed for motorists and for fleet and car sharing service managers.
With its digital brains, Pirelli Connesso creates a network joining Pirelli, consumers and the sales centres: the Pirelli system can integrate with other smartphone applications and complement the device by providing new contents and functions. In the future, the Connesso app will be able to notify the driver of motorsports events in the area and provide the opportunity to review workshops and share opinions on the received service with other Pirelli Connesso community users.
The new Pirelli Connesso system will be available on the spare part market for P Zero and Winter Sottozero summer and winter tyres, respectively, sizes from 19 inches up, black and coloured, for cars in the prestige segment.
Pirelli Connesso will be debuting in the United States in the summer of 2017: the platform on which the system is based was developed in the USA in partnership with digital sector leaders. Pirelli Connesso will then be launched on major markets across Europe and in the Far East.
