Porsche is best known for manufacturing fast and sleek sports cars, so it comes as no surprise that its first-ever EV is a sports sedan and that it fully meets the expectations for style and performance. The all-electric Taycan is every inch a Porsche, with its fast acceleration times, suave styling, and the latest in-cabin technology. For its second year on the market, the German automaker’s first battery-powered car gets a RWD variant and new features that range from new colors to the possibility to add optional technologies via over-the-year updates. And if you want to enjoy some individuality, our selection of 2021 Porsche Taycan accessories and parts will make any level of customization possible.
Unlike all other electric cars that use 400-volt battery packs, the Taycan utilizes an 800-volt architecture. Twice higher voltage accelerates charging and allows for the use of thinner, lighter wiring and smaller yet powerful motors. It is also equipped with a two-speed transmission versus a single-speed gearbox that is standard in the EV world, which helps boost acceleration. The 2021 Porsche Taycan is available in base, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S models. New for this year, the base trim comes with rear-wheel drive. All other cars are fitted with two electric motors, one at each axle, giving them all-wheel drive capability.
The new model that serves as an entry point to the Taycan lineup comes in two flavors. The one equipped with a smaller 79.2-kWh battery makes 402 ponies, while a larger 93.4-kWh option boosts the output to 469 horsepower. The Taycan 4S, previously available exclusively with the 93.4-kWh battery pack and rated at 563 hp, gets a smaller 79.2-kWh battery for 2021 and a peak output of 522 hp matching that base system. The Taycan Turbo and Turbo S make up to 670 and 750 horsepower, respectively. While the former can sprint to 60 mph in 3 seconds flat, it takes the top-of-the-line Turbo S only 2.6 seconds to do that run from a standstill. As for the driving range, both models can travel roughly 200 miles on a single charge. The 4S is the longest-range version rated at 225 miles.
The 2021 Taycan gains a head-up display and allows the owner to download such software as lane-keep assist and InnoDrive adaptive cruise control. On vehicles fitted with air springs, there’s a newly available Smartlift feature that changes ride height based on GPS data. In its standard form, the Taycan comes from the factory with three screens in charge of driver information, infotainment, and climate control functions. As expected from Porsche, the cockpit of the Taycan is comfortable and has a luxury feel. There’s always room for customization even in upscale cars like yours, and if there’s exactly what you are planning to do, we have all the 2021 Porsche Taycan parts and accessories you may need.
The 2021 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo is for those who want a high-performance EV to be a bit more practical. It is a wagon version of the Taycan with additional cargo space, more headroom, 0.8 inch higher ground clearance to handle road imperfections, and an air suspension that can further raise the ride height. Its trim level lineup is identical to that of the sedan. All-wheel drive is the sole configuration for the Cross Turismo, and it is only available with a larger battery pack with power outputs mirroring those of so-equipped sedan models. The wagon-bodied Taycan isn't meant to go off-road, but it can be had with an off-road appearance pack that adds rugged-looking accessories like body cladding, unique wheels, and other visuals.
