Honda is already qualified enough to teach others a thing or two about how to make small hot hatch cars. Honda, a manufacturer that has never tried to compete in the market of full-size trucks, continues conquering America with its little yet mighty Civic. Having completely rebuilt the car for the 2016 model year, Honda came up with the prototype that later became the 10th-generation Civic at the 2015 New York Auto Show. The most expected of all Civics, the Civic Hatchback was unveiled at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, accompanied by Honda’s assurances about the return of the five-door model back to America.
Keeping the promise and causing a certain degree of excitement among Civic enthusiasts, Honda launched the 2017 Civic Hatchback in North America. After that, Honda made its fans go wild by introducing the new hatchback-based Honda Civic Type R late in spring 2017. While offering a perfectly portioned amount of driving fun and practicality plus an attractive price tag, both the standard Civic and its more muscular cousin are expected to substantially boost Honda sales in America. Compared to the previous model, the 2018 Honda Civic Type R received minor exterior updates that include revised fender vents, spoilers, side skirts, and lights. The model also gained distinctive triple exhaust tips and bigger wheels. 2018 Honda Civic Type R accessories and parts of the interior resemble those of the new-generation Civic, but with the addition of carbon fiber and aluminum trim as well as attractive red accents.
The Type R came with the only powertrain option available - a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline four VTEC generating 306 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, teamed with a six-speed manual transmission that in turn distributes that power and torque between the front wheels only. Other Civic models offer a few powertrain options to choose from. The hatchback comes with a standard 174-hp 1.5-liter turbo four for all trim levels, mated to either a six-speed manual/automatic or a continuously variable transmission. The Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe add a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine to the options list.
