In the ever-escalating war of capabilities and styling, the Chevy Silverado yields the palm to the Ford F-Series. But while taking a solid second place, the Silverado is a traditional, strong pickup truck that is as capable and reliable as it is comfortable and amenity-packed. For 2017, the Silverado 1500 added a couple of tech features, while a heavy-duty lineup got a beefed-up Duramax turbodiesel. Depending on the intended use, this truck, as always, offers a variety of configurations and packages for any needs. They all differ in styling and specifications, yet bearing a strong family resemblance.
On the powertrain front, upgrades were given solely to the 2017 Silverado 2500HD and 3500 HD. The heavy-duty lineup received an upgraded diesel engine which makes the truck apt for even more serious trailering and hauling jobs. A 6.6-liter L5P Duramax V8 features 90% of new or heavily revised parts, which together with a reworked air induction system helped boost power and torque to 445 hp and 910 lb.-ft. Better pulling / hauling power comes from the way the torque is generated: 90% of twist is at the driver's disposal starting from 1,550 rpm and is maintained up through 2,850 rpm. This mighty turbodiesel is backed by a time-tested 1000-Series 6-speed automatic transmission sourced from Allison. Other engine options for the 2017 Chevy Silverado HD are two different versions of a V8 that displaces 6 liters: the standard gasoline-powered one delivers 360 hp, while its CNG-fed variant downs the pony count to 301 hp. The powerplants of the Chevy Silverado 1500 are carryovers from the 2016 model, offering the same three options that can be mated to 4-wheel drive instead of 2WD. The base one is a 4.3L 285-hp V6, next comes a 5.3L V8 that gives a 355 hp output rating to higher trims, and topping the line is a 6.2L V8 that powers the High Country.
Whether light-duty or heavy-duty, the 2017 Chevy Silverado is a capable and comfortable cruiser, with inviting interiors rich in quality, plush materials, and smart tech that keeps you connected and entertained during the ride. Technology-wise, 2017 Chevy Silverado parts and systems include a 4.2-inch customizable Driver Information display, Chevrolet MyLink audio system operated via a 7- or 8-inch touchscreen, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and wireless charging. The 1500 Silverado pickup truck surprises with a considerable amount of small storage spaces throughout the cabin and offers a sensible layout. Android Auto is offered for the first time for 2017, now coming complete with Apple CarPlay that appeared the previous year. Teen Driver is now part of the standard kit, while low-speed autonomous braking feature was added to Chevrolet's Enhanced Driver Alert Package. This suite of safety systems is offered as standard on the top-tier High Country, which has also gained some new 2017 Chevy Silverado accessories such as a heated steering wheel wrapped in fine leather and power-adjustable pedals. If you need any more 2017 Chevy Silverado accessories or parts to improve any of your vehicle's traits, we have you covered.
