The 2017 model year marks 50 years since the iconic Camaro nameplate was introduced back in 1966. Purpose built to beat the Ford Mustang, the Chevrolet Camaro has established its place among America’s most revered cars next to its rival, not behind it. Now in its sixth generation, it is still unmistakably a Camaro outside, while having advanced mechanicals under its skin that give it the performance that is now more impressive than ever before. Its lineup continues to expand, offering four available engine options, several suspension configurations, and a variety of packages. For 2017, the 1LE package returns, available for V6 and V8 powered cars equipped with a manual transmission. For those who want more than the traditional coupe or convertible can provide, Chevy offers the all-new Camaro ZL1, a track-ready sports car with a supercharged 6.2L LT4 V8 that churns out 650 hp and blasts the car to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds. Other trim levels of the 2017 Camaro include 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, and 2SS. And of course, in celebration of the milestone, Chevrolet launched a 50th Anniversary Edition Camaro with unique “Fifty” badges and distinct black and orange accents inside and out.
The sixth-generation Camaro is made to be lighter and faster, with all of the performance technologies transferred over to the 2017 model. It is built on a lightweight platform, with extensive use of aluminum throughout its body. It is the material that all wheel options are made from, while its use in the suspension system reduces unsprung mass for sharp handling. Making this lightweight body move is the standard 2.0L turbocharged I4 that develops 275 hp. 3.6L V6 and 6.2L V8 powerplants are also available, rated at 335 and 455 horsepower, respectively. Customers can select from the thrill of a standard 6-speed manual transmission or the convenience of an optional 8-speed automatic. The 2017 Chevy Camaro ZL1 offers one more transmission option – a 10-speed paddle-shift automatic that is exclusive to the segment. V6 and V8 models have the available dual-mode active exhaust system with electronically controlled valves.
With a host of customization options provided by the manufacturer, the 2017 Camaro offers a great deal of ways to tailor a look and performance to suit a wide range of customers. But the aftermarket industry can extend these possibilities even further. With so many 2017 Chevy Camaro accessories and parts available on the market, you can build the car of your dreams.
