The modern Dodge Charger is a family-friendly car packed with tech, yet it still retains the old-school muscle car spirit. It keeps providing rear-drive fun backed by a lineup of brawny engines and offering a visual appeal almost unmatched in the segment. Dodge continues to refresh and expand the Charger model range that encompasses eight versions for 2018. The SE trim grade was discontinued for the new model year, while the GT trim that offers standard all-wheel drive joined the lineup. In addition to a reversing camera and rear parking sensors that are made standard across the Charger lineup for 2018, the base model, now named the SXT, offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration together with Uconnect infotainment with a 7-inch touchscreen. The equipment on some trim levels was revised as well: lighter aluminum black wheels were fitted to the SRT 392, the SRT Hellcat received a new grille and badging on the fenders and instrument panel, while the SXT Plus can now be had with an appearance package giving it a high-performance look. 2018 Dodge Charger models that have a shaker hood scoop can be equipped with a Shakedown package inspired by the homonymous Challenger concept car. The Shakedown show car is notable for offering a unique combination of a classic body and modern parts. Adding no performance-enhancing components, the package offers purely exterior and interior tweaks. These include unique stripes, white gauges, and six- or nine-speaker audio by Alpine.
The business end of the 2018 Dodge Charger relies on a team of robust engines. The lineup starts with a strong 3.6-liter V6 that provides 292 horsepower for the base SXT and ups the pony count to 300 hp when fitted to the SXT Plus and GT models. Other versions of the 2018 Charger come with V8 power. A 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is found under the sculpted hoods of the R/T and Daytona with 370 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque at its disposal. And if 485 horsepower provided by a 6.4-liter eight-cylinder seems to be not enough for those seeking the most adrenaline-pumping driving and heart-stopping acceleration, there's a devilish SRT Hellcat with a 707-hp supercharged V8 that displaces 6.2 liters. Whatever your choice, the only transmission option that sends power to the wheels is an 8-speed automatic.
The Dodge Charger is as safe as it is powerful. It boasts five stars from NHTSA and the highest rating from IIHS in almost any category. Those who opt for special packages and higher trim levels are offered optional safety tech and driver assistance features such as automatic emergency braking, lane departure and forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, rear cross-traffic alert, and more. The 2018 Charger offers a wide array of packages, options, and engine choices. But if you want to end up with a really unique car, you'll need 2018 Dodge Charger accessories and parts.
